Download your whole site
One click gives you a .zip with your website (ready for any web host), every word as a file, your photos and your sign-up list. It's yours to keep, any time.
Open your site in the editor and click Site settings (in the left panel).
At the bottom of the list, click Download your site (.zip). Only the account owner sees this button.
Your browser saves the file to its usual downloads folder. A site with lots of photos can take a few minutes; keep the tab open until it finishes.
Unzip it (double-click the file on a Mac; on Windows right-click it and choose Extract All).
To look at your site on your computer: open the website folder and double-click index.html.
To put your site on another web host: upload everything inside the website folder to the top folder of your new host. README.txt in the download walks you through it.
- What's inside: website (your site as visitors see it), content (site.json with every word, page, section and blog post, drafts too, plus your photos as you uploaded them), signups.csv (your email sign-ups with each person's consent) and README.txt.
- Pages with a password are not in the website folder: another host can't keep the password on them, so anyone could read them. Their words are still in content/site.json.
- Contact and sign-up forms in the downloaded website need a form service on your new host. README.txt explains how to connect one.
- You can download a site 3 times an hour (10 a day). Each download is listed in Activity.
- Cancelled your plan? You can still sign in and download your site until your account is deleted.
- Editors can't download the site: it holds your sign-up list, which is your visitors' personal information.
